Approach to Recovery

Our teen and young adult program is built to treat those struggling with mental health and drug use issues. We are here to provide you with a personalized approach and comprehensive treatment that addresses the unique needs and challenges that young adults face with a focus on sustainable recovery.

Our approach to addiction and recovery is rooted in the belief that recovery and sobriety should be defined by the client. We understand that each individual has a unique story with addiction and recovery, and we aim to provide treatment accordingly. We invite you to take an active role in your recovery plan and decide how you want to engage in the process. Collaborating with your case manager on your addiction treatment plan is crucial to ensure that you are comfortable, motivated, and that your treatment plan is structured in the most effective way to help you heal.

We provide several levels of care including a range of individual and group counseling, behavioral health therapy, and experiential therapies. Because we know that recovery is unique to every individual, we will work with you during aftercare planning to connect you with the resources that help you meet your goals. We collaborate with our community partner, Insight Northwest Counseling, to offer a range of supportive services, such as individual therapy, couples counseling, family therapy, medication management, and psychological testing and evaluation.

There are several modalities to addiction treatment and recovery and we utilize a wide variety of them:

  • Harm reduction

  • Abstinence-based treatment

  • Mindfulness

The Role of Family Therapy

The journey towards rehabilitation is profoundly personal yet intrinsically communal, requiring a nurturing environment that extends beyond the individual. Our approach is rooted in the belief that when families are involved in the treatment process, it enhances the therapeutic outcomes and fosters a deeper understanding and stronger bonds within the family unit. We encourage family involvement in various therapy sessions and workshops, which are designed to equip you with effective communication tools, understanding of addiction and mental health issues, and strategies for creating a supportive home environment.

Incorporating family therapy sessions into our treatment programs not only aids in healing the individual but also promotes holistic healing within the family itself. At Insight Northwest Recovery, we provide families with continuous education and support to help them navigate the complexities of recovery and relapse prevention. These resources empower family members to become proactive participants in the recovery process and provide a critical network of support for the youth as they reintegrate into daily life. By fostering this collaborative atmosphere, we ensure that our young clients have the best possible foundation for long-term recovery, underpinned by the unwavering support of their loved ones.

Co-occurring Mental Health & Addiction Treatment for Young Adults

Commonly, addiction is actually a direct result of prior mental health issues – as an individual will sometimes turn to a substance or dependency that helps them to “cope” with the pain of their mental health challenges. If you are suffering from depression or anxiety, you may turn to a behavior or a drug that releases dopamine, therefore temporarily easing your pain. Unfortunately, in your attempt to seek happiness or reprieve from your mental despair, you may actually only have your pain exacerbated, while also taking on a whole new layer of struggle; addiction.

Co-occurring Disorder Drug & Alcohol Treatment can also be referred to as integrated treatment or dual diagnosis treatment. It is an approach to treating individuals who have both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder. These co-occurring disorders are very common, as young adults with mental health disorders may turn to drugs or alcohol use as a way to self-medicate, which can lead to addiction. Co-occurring treatment involves addressing both the substance use disorder and the mental health disorder simultaneously.

This kind of treatment program typically involves our team of healthcare professionals, including licensed therapists, peer support, case managers and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners who work together to develop individualized treatment plans for each client. Plans may include programs at adolescent residential treatment centers, intensive outpatient programs, therapy, group counseling, medication management and on-going peer support.

The goal of co-occurring treatment is to help you achieve and maintain recovery from both substance use disorders and your mental health disorder, to improve your overall quality of life and provide sustainable healing. This approach has been shown to be effective in improving treatment outcomes and reducing the risk of relapse.

It is our goal to walk alongside you every step of the way so you can create the life you deserve with the right support to help you get there.

Types of Treatment We Offer

We offer three levels of outpatient treatment programs for young people. Our outpatient programs are beneficial for clients who are transitioning from an inpatient program, have completed medical detox, or have less severe or more “mild” addiction.

When compared to residential treatment programs, outpatient treatment programs have a variety of benefits, including flexibility for adults transitioning out of college or school environments, or working around your professional or family schedule. We are here to provide you with the ability to recover in a safe, welcoming and therapeutic environment.

The levels of outpatient treatment that we provide are:

1- Intensive Day Treatment (PHP)

Outpatient treatment usually begins with Intensive Day Treatment, also known as PHP or Partial Hospitalization. This first phase provides you with the opportunity to participate in a daily structured treatment program that combines individual therapy, group therapy and education, and activity-based therapies. In this program, you would attend 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks.

2- Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

Following PHP, you will most likely move on to the next step of our program, Intensive Outpatient Program, or IOP. This phase is slightly less intensive than PHP but offers many of the same benefits like group education and counseling sessions and utilizing activity-based therapies as part of your treatment plans. The IOP program runs in 3 hour group counseling sessions, 3 times per week, for 3 months.

3- Outpatient / Aftercare

Once you have completed one or more of the intensive outpatient programs, the next step is Outpatient / Aftercare. This program provides access to counseling sessions, however, unlike PHP or IOP the sessions are shorter or meet less frequently. The main goal of Aftercare is to set you up for long-term rehabilitation. This phase of treatment also provides access to peer support and psychiatric services for up to 12 months.

We recognize that recovery is a lifelong process, and we are committed to providing you with the support you need to confidently define and maintain your sobriety after you leave our treatment center. Our aftercare planning services include referrals to support groups, sober living programs, continuing care programs, and other resources that can help young adults stay on track in their sobriety.

As you complete our outpatient programs, we hope to help you ease back into daily life without the burden of substance use or mental health challenges. We are here every step of the way to provide support, guidance, and understanding as you navigate this difficult and hugely important chapter in your recovery.
