APPROACH TO RECOVERY
Our Approach to Addiction, Recovery, and Integrated Treatment
At Insight Northwest Recovery in Eugene, Oregon, we know that your journey towards overcoming addiction or mental health challenges is unique. We approach each client with the understanding that treatment is never one-size-fits-all. We understand that your experience is deeply personal to you, and we approach every case with genuine warmth, empathy, and understanding.
Our treatment philosophy invites you to be an active participant in your recovery plan. You’ll work closely with our team to develop a plan that meets your goals and needs – providing the comfort and motivation to help you heal. We honor your individual story and strive to create an environment that provides hope and supports you every step of the way on your path to recovery.
Addiction and substance use issues come with a significant stigma in our society, and we are very aware of that. Our goal within our practice and the community beyond is to help remove that stigma – making addiction and recovery a more comfortable and less taboo topic. We hope this allows individuals who are facing the challenges of addiction and recovery to feel freer in their journey. Facing addiction is an incredibly difficult and isolating experience in itself. And the judgement and misunderstanding of addiction in our society creates even more isolation. We believe strongly that it is past time to change that. You are not alone, you are not broken and there is hope.
At Insight Northwest Recovery we are able to offer addiction counseling and recovery treatment to those who are facing many types of addiction. We are not limited to just substance addiction and are happy to be able to assist individuals affected by other kinds of addiction.
SOME OF THE FORMS OF ADDICTION THAT CAN BE TREATED THROUGH OUR co-occurring disorder treatment SERVICES ARE:

Addiction and Co-occurring Mental Health Conditions
Something that is not commonly talked about is the connection between addiction and mental illness. Substance use and mental health challenges can often go hand in hand, so we feel it is the effective course of treatment to address both. Often, addiction is actually a direct result of prior mental health issues – as an individual will turn to a substance or dependency that helps them to “cope” with the pain of their mental health challenges. If someone is suffering from depression or anxiety, they may turn to a behavior or a drug that releases dopamine, therefore easing their pain temporarily. Unfortunately, the individual seeking happiness or reprieve from their mental despair will actually only have their pain exacerbated, while also taking on a whole new set of pain; addiction.
Alternatively, different forms of addiction can cause mental illness or mental health issues. The effects of drugs, alcohol, and other behavioral addictions on your brain can almost always leave it starved for the proper chemicals it needs to balance in order to lead a healthy life beyond addiction. In these cases, a person who seeks addiction treatment might be given a dual diagnosis. Our treatment plans will factor in any dual diagnoses and we are able to work with our community partner, Insight Northwest Counseling, to manage medication treatment for both addiction and mental health challenges. When treated in tandem, the treatment plan can be extremely effective and lead to long-term recovery.
Families & Affected Others
Do you have a child, spouse, sibling, or loved one struggling with addiction?
Do you feel like addiction has been wreaking havoc in your life (and on your family) and you are unsure what to do or where to go for help?
Are you navigating the treatment journey with a loved one and are unsure how to best support them, yourself, and adjust to this new reality?
Navigating addiction and recovery with a loved one can be painful, uncomfortable, frustrating, and extremely chaotic. We recognize that addiction is highly stigmatized and is often a taboo topic in our society. At Insight Northwest Recovery, we approach our clients with the belief that addiction is not a moral failing; rather it is a disease that can be treated and recovery can become one of the biggest strengths and assets. We believe that those who have experienced addiction are some of the most resilient, talented, kind, passionate, and hard-working people we know.
Many practices treat only the addicted individual themselves, with very little mention or involvement of the people in their lives. While we recognize that the individual impacted by substance use and addiction is the most affected, we also believe it is equally important to support the family and loved ones who are also impacted by the damage and hardship of addiction. Involving family and loved ones in the treatment process not only helps foster understanding and heal relationships, but helps the individual create a stronger support network and achieve long-term recovery.
Standing by a family member, partner, friend or other loved one who is experiencing addiction or navigating their recovery can be an incredibly challenging experience. Family and friends of an addicted individual can feel helpless, confused, angry, isolated, or overwhelmed. Because addiction is so stigmatized in our world – there is a lack of conversation around this topic. So many people don’t know how to process their feelings or even know where to begin in assisting their loved one who is suffering, and that is where we come in.
At Insight Northwest Recovery, we want you to know that we are here for you as the impacted loved one, and we are committed to supporting you through this time as well. For this reason, we partner with Insight Northwest Counseling to offer individual counseling and family counseling in our treatment plans. These sessions can help you navigate this journey and be a place where you can receive support and tools to cope and process your own pain, as well as learn the healthiest way to support your loved one.
During family support sessions we will work on:
designing coping tools specifically for your family
making sense of the current family environment
establishing clear boundaries with how to move forward
developing strategies to understand your loved ones triggers and how to best support them in their recovery
Whether your loved one is using substances, or is currently in inpatient alcohol and drug treatment, our addiction treatment facility can assist your family with the challenges you’re facing. We speak the language of recovery and approach families in a non-judgmental, warm, and client-centered way.
We want you to feel safe and comfortable as you embark on a sensitive and difficult journey.
