Teen treatment Center in Eugene, OR

Teens face unique mental health challenges because of the social, emotional, and physiological changes that occur during puberty and young adulthood.

Adolescence is a time of transition and self-discovery, and for many young people the challenges of this time of life—peer pressure, changes in body chemistry—can intensify mental health issues like depression, anxiety disorder, personality disorder, substance use, eating disorders, and more.

Beyond the hormonal changes that impact our emotional regulation, in today’s world teens may be struggling with:

  • Social comparison

  • Body image issues

  • Stress in school

  • Questioning their identity and self-worth

If you are struggling with your mental health, or have a teen in your life who is experiencing constant or worsening mental health challenges, we are here for you.

Insight Northwest Recovery offers treatment for addiction and mental health. We provide support to teens so they can begin to identify these challenges, handle frustrations, and develop coping skills. Each of our outpatient programs has a focus on mental health and real-life situations impacting this age group—such as school or college, family, peer pressure, and college binge drinking culture.

We offer co-occurring drug and alcohol treatment services for teens with the goal of helping you conquer mental health or substance use issues. With our experienced and dedicated team of treatment providers, our clients (and your loved ones) work with us through the outpatient treatment process to optimize your addiction treatment, regain control of your life, and set you on a trajectory of continued growth and wellness.

Our teen treatment center offers outpatient addiction counseling and recovery treatment to those who are facing all types of addiction, not just substance use disorders or drug addiction. Some teens may struggle with other behavioral addictions like gaming addiction or other technology struggles like social media addiction or internet addiction.

The Benefits of Outpatient Treatment for Teens

Unlike residential treatment centers, outpatient treatment programs have a variety of benefits, including flexibility and the ability to recover in a clean, safe, welcoming and structured environment. Additionally, our teen teen treatment programs seek to support and empower family and friends to be a part of the process, and strengthen your support network outside of our doors.

Teens have a lot on their plates: school and homework, after school activities and commitments. A longer-term stay in a  residential treatment center could interfere with these things. We want to create treatment options that fit you and help you balance your recovery with your daily life. Additionally, you’ll be surrounded by peers who are going through similar life experiences. These peer supports are a crucial part of our programs, and can help clients develop relationships that will become a part of your support network outside of our center.

The Importance of Family Support

Family involvement plays a vital role in your teen's recovery journey by providing a loving, nurturing, and stable environment at home that reinforces a sense of belonging and security. As teens navigate the challenges of recovery, they will rely on the emotional support from family to cope with the emotions and situations they may face. Having a caring and understanding support network makes a huge difference in their treatment outcomes. Involving family members in a teen's recovery process provides structure, guidance, and clear expectations that help reduce the risk of relapse. Your family as a whole can heal relationships and grow together by learning how to communicate openly and honestly throughout the process.

Another element of family therapy and support sessions is educating the family. This is done both in session, and also through homework assignments, teaching and practicing communication and coping skills, providing educational materials, and identifying strategies for relapse prevention. We know that families that receive the education and support they need can help their teens make informed decisions about their recovery process so they can get the right care and resources they need. By making the recovery process a team effort, we can minimize relapses and ensure that you have a safe space to recover in.

Substance Use Disorders We Treat

A majority of the substance use disorders we treat fall into the category of opioid addiction or alcohol use.

Often the dependency on these substances can cause a decrease in mental health, and going through treatment to manage the symptoms of mental health conditions such as anxiety disorder and depression, as well as managing withdrawal symptoms, is crucial to the recovery process.

Examples of the kinds of opioid drugs we treat for are below:

Dual Diagnosis

We feel that it is imperative to address mental health and addiction at the same time as they are often cooccurring disorders. Often times, mental health issues are the underlying root cause of addiction. As a result of these disorders, individuals will turn to a substance that releases endorphins and/or dopamine, such as opioids or alcohol, to “cope” with the pain.

Another way that these conditions can go hand-in-hand is that different forms of addiction can lead to mental health disorders. The impact of drugs, alcohol, technology addiction or other behavioral addictions on your brain can almost always leave it starved for the chemicals it needs to be balanced—and to live a healthy life. In these cases, you may be given a dual diagnosis. If this happens we are able to curate treatment plans that work to address the whole picture of what you are dealing with, and get you on the road to recovery.

Levels of Care

At Insight Northwest Recovery, we offer various levels of outpatient treatment for children and adolescents. Whatever treatment option you choose will match where you are on your recovery journey and provide the support you need to keep progressing and building on the skills you’re learning in treatment.

The levels of teen treatment that we provide are:

1 - Intensive Day Treatment (PHP)

The outpatient treatment process begins with Intensive Day Treatment, also known as PHP or Partial Hospitalization Programs. This step provides our clients the opportunity to participate in a daily structured treatment program that combines individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, and education, and activity-based therapies. In this program, you would attend 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. Our Intensive Day Treatment program for teens is great for those who have completed adolescent residential treatment programs or medical detox, or for those who need a less intensive level of care than round the clock teen residential treatment.

2 - Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)

Following PHP, clients will often move to the next step of our program, Intensive Outpatient Programs, or IOP. This step is slightly less intensive than PHP but offers many of the same benefits. Like PHP, you would meet for group and family counseling sessions and utilize activity-based therapies as part of your treatment plans. The IOP program runs in 3 hour group counseling sessions, 3 times per week, for 3 months.

3 - Outpatient / Aftercare

Once a client has completed one or more of the intensive outpatient programs, the next step is Standard Outpatient Treatment. Our standard program also utilizes group and family education and counseling sessions. However, unlike PHP or IOP the sessions are shorter and meet less frequently. For this step of the program, you would meet 3-hours a week for group counseling sessions for 3 months.

The main goal of our Aftercare Program is to set you up with ongoing support for long-term recovery. Following steps 1–3 of our treatment program, you would transition into our after care program to help you manage your addiction(s) long-term. This program schedule runs in 1 hour group counseling sessions, 1 time per week, for 1 year.

As you complete our programs, our goal is to ease you back into daily life without the burden of substance use.

On-going recovery looks different for everyone and there are so many options for mental health care after you have completed outpatient treatment programs at our treatment facility. Some people may benefit from specialty programs like wilderness therapy or arts therapy. These programs are often geared towards teen and young adult age groups. Others may benefit from continued behavioral health treatment modalities like individual therapy. Some evidence-based treatments for behavioral therapy that have been proven to be effective for adolescent mental health are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

No matter what kind of therapy program you choose, on-going mental health treatment provides you with continued support as you navigate the abundance of personal growth and self-discovery as you enter adulthood. Your dedicated case manager will help connect you with the best resources for you that align with your treatment plan and goals for your future.
