Are You Ready to Take the Next Step?
What is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?
Our Intensive Outpatient Program is a mental health treatment program that provides a structured and supportive environment that is less intensive than inpatient treatment programs, or Day Treatment, but more comprehensive than traditional outpatient therapy.
We provide IOP treatment in-person or online for our clients who are struggling with:
Anxiety
Depression
Suicidal Thoughts
ADHD
Bipolar Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Eating Disorders
Substance Use
Alcohol or Drug Addiction
Dealing with one of these challenges can be difficult enough, but when you are left facing multiple mental health struggles it can feel hopeless and overwhelming. Our goal in providing comprehensive, integrated treatment is to help ease those struggles and equip you with the structure, guidance and support you need to begin your recovery journey and start feeling better as soon as you begin our program.
IOP includes:
A structured environment with individual therapy and group counseling
Activity-based education
Peer support
The IOP program is made up of 3-hour group counseling sessions, held three times a week for a duration of 3 months, creating a sense of connection within the group and continued growth on your path to wellness.
In our Intensive Outpatient Program, you will receive assistance with building coping skills and a tailored recovery plan that suits your needs while still continuing with your daily schedule and responsibilities. Your treatment plan will factor in your personal history, experiences, coping and life skills, relapse prevention, or suicide prevention when necessary.
Depending on your needs, the Intensive Outpatient Program program can be a flexible and convenient option that fits your life giving you the tools and support you need to overcome your mental health challenges.
How Do Intensive Outpatient Programs Work?
Intensive Outpatient Programs include individual and group therapy sessions, which are critical to the recovery process and provide access to the support that you need to overcome your mental health challenges. We will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan that is tailored to your unique needs and involves learning and implementing new coping strategies to help prevent relapse.
We offer a range of evidence-based behavioral therapies, including:
These types of therapies and motivational approach are designed to help you change negative thinking and build positive coping and social skills. The individual counseling sessions provide you with a safe environment to discuss your emotions and any issues that come up during the recovery process. Group therapy sessions provide a healing space for you to connect with others facing similar struggles.
The combination of working with our treatment team during individual and group sessions, activity-based education, psychiatry, on-going peer support, and family education help reinforce everything you are learning and implement your new coping skills in your daily life to overcome mental health challenges and behavioral health issues. This program and community reinforcement help transition you from more intensive programs like inpatient treatment or day treatment. Depending on your current needs, our Intensive Outpatient Program can also help you start your recovery journey in a structured, supportive, and empowering environment. It is our goal that you walk away from this program feeling confident and equipped with the skills you need to achieve long-term recovery.
The Benefits of Intensive Outpatient Treatment
We understand the importance of fitting on-going recovery support into your life. Our Intensive Outpatient Program is flexible, meeting twice a week for three hours, allowing you to continue with your day-to-day schedule while receiving treatment. We offer this program in-person at our Eugene, Oregon location or online from the comfort of your home so treatment can fit into your life. This gives you the opportunity to apply your newly learned skills to your daily life and start building the foundation for long-term recovery.
Our Intensive Outpatient Program is highly structured and personalized to your needs. This program provides the opportunity to understand your mental health challenges better and know what causes them in the first place.
IOP also helps clients dealing with co-occurring mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression, as well as struggling with drug or alcohol use. Insight Northwest Recovery provides integrated treatment for both concerns. We cover integrated clinical issues in Intensive Outpatient Programs to address both mental health challenges and substance use disorders.
This includes strategies for:
Relapse prevention and how to cope with the inevitable triggers that come up in day-to-day life

Family education and helping to mend damaged relationships
Various coping techniques that will help you manage your emotions and stress in a healthier and more effective way
Our treatment providers at Insight Northwest Recovery provide a safe, supportive environment for you to share your challenges and connect with others dealing with similar issues. Your journey will be entirely unique to you, but working within a group to learn how to manage your recovery provides an opportunity for mutual support and understanding. If you are ready to take the next step in your recovery journey, keep reading to learn more about the three levels of treatment we provide at Insight Northwest Recovery.
Levels of Outpatient Treatment at Insight Northwest Recovery
The types of treatment that we provide at Insight Northwest Recovery are:
1 - Intensive Day Treatment (PHP)
Your journey to healing at Insight Northwest Recovery starts with Intensive Day Treatment. Also known as PHP or Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Day Treatment invites you to engage in a daily structured treatment plan that thoughtfully combines individual therapy, group therapy and education, as well as activity-based therapies. In this supportive environment, you'll attend sessions for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, over a 4 week period, fostering personal growth and well-being.
2 - Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
The next step in treatment is our Intensive Outpatient Programs, or IOP. IOP provides a slightly less intensive experience compared to PHP, but still provides many of the same benefits. Similar to PHP, you'll participate in group education and counseling sessions, as well as engage in activity-based therapies tailored to your treatment plan. The IOP program is made up of 3-hour group counseling sessions, held three times a week for a duration of 3 months, creating a sense of connection within the group and continued growth on your path to wellness.
3 - Outpatient / aftercare
In the Outpatient / Aftercare phase of treatment, we continue to offer counseling sessions as a core part of the program. Unlike PHP or IOP, these sessions are held less frequently, considering your progress through the programs and your current needs. You’ll have access to peer support, individual counseling, and psychiatry providing you with ongoing encouragement in a warm and supportive environment as you build on what you have learned throughout treatment.
Our main goal is the genuine desire to guide you towards lasting recovery. After completing PHP or IOP, you can seamlessly transition into our aftercare program, designed to help you effectively manage your mental health or addiction while providing you with on-going support.
Following outpatient treatment, the course for on-going recovery is entirely up to you. There is support available both in-person and through online therapy and we are happy to help you create a long-term treatment plan that works for you.
Drug & Alcohol Treatment
The correlation between addiction and mental health concerns is often overlooked. Substance use and mental health problems can be interconnected, and it is beneficial to address both when treating individuals. Often, addiction arises from prior mental health issues as people turn to substances to cope with their pain which can result in stimulant use disorders and other drug uses. Individuals suffering from depression or anxiety may turn to drugs or certain behaviors that release dopamine to alleviate their pain temporarily. However, this only exacerbates their pain and leads to addiction.
On the other hand, addiction can cause mental health issues or worsen existing ones. Drug, alcohol, or other behavioral addictions can deplete the chemicals necessary for a healthy brain, leading to mental health disorders. At Insight Northwest Recovery, we provide dual diagnosis treatment for both addiction and mental health issues. This approach is highly effective in achieving successful treatment outcomes.
Integrated treatment is a treatment approach for individuals with both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder. Clients with mental health issues may turn to drugs or alcohol as a form of self-medication, which can result in addiction. Our team of healthcare professionals develops personalized disorder treatment plans that address both disorders at the same time. Treatment may involve therapy, group counseling, and peer support.
The primary goal of treatment is to achieve and maintain recovery from both substance use and mental health challenges, improving overall quality of life. This approach has proven to be effective in reducing the risk of relapse and improving treatment outcomes. At Insight Northwest Recovery, we are dedicated to providing the support needed to help you create the life you deserve.
Some of the mental health challenges we treat are:
Anxiety
Depression
Suicidal Thoughts
ADHD
Bipolar Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Eating Disorders
Substance Use
Alcohol or Drug Addiction
