MA, Professional Counselor Associate
The stories we tell ourselves are sacred and the context from which they are forged is meaningful.
Respecting each individual as a culmination of unique experience, conditioning, and environmental, social, and multicultural influences, I approach therapy from a cognitive, narrative, and existential perspective.
I aim to help examine and dissect myths of self by providing support in creating the distance to do so from a safe space. In examining the narrative, I seek to empower clients to identify these points of pressure and judgement, challenge them, and break a cycle that feeds into negative self-image and behaviors produced of these thoughts and feelings. Utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Polyvagal and Existential Theory, and a client-centered approach, I believe that a therapeutic environment can be provided in which a client can generate their own growth, acknowledge their strengths, turn compassion inwards, and feel prepared to challenge incongruent thoughts and societal influences that tell them they are anything less than enough.
My passion for counseling was ignited after reflecting on the junctures within my own story where therapy could have supported different outcomes had it been accessed. This perspective has only strengthened during my previous work with youth and adolescents and ultimately lead me to Insight Northwest Recovery.
Outside of the counseling room, you will likely find me watching documentaries or listening to true crime podcasts (and likely snacking on pickles during both).
Professional Background
With an undergrad degree in literature and creative writing, I find myself thinking of stories often. Character development allowed me to become invested in individual's context, and shifted my thinking from "why" to "what happened?" Following this realization, I pursued an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My journey through academia continues and I am currently obtaining a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. My work is always conducted through a trauma lens and informed by Polyvagal Theory.
