Recognizing that you need support is a huge step forward. If you’re here reading this, you’ve already taken that first step. Recovery is a journey with ups and downs, but you are stronger than your struggles, and healing is possible. We will walk alongside you, every step of the way.
Substance use is a growing challenge nationwide, including here in Southern Oregon. According to the CDC, nearly half of overdose-related deaths involve a mix of substances, and in 2022, 60 million people in the U.S. reported binge drinking. But the good news is—recovery is possible with the right education, support, and treatment.

Treating Mental Health and Addiction Together
If you're starting your recovery journey, it helps to know what to expect. While every person’s path is unique, the foundation of treatment remains the same—providing support for both mental health and addiction at the same time for the best chance at lasting recovery.
Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment means that mental health and substance use are treated together by the same provider or treatment team. Many people turn to drugs or alcohol as a way to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health struggles, and treating only one issue without addressing the other can make recovery harder.
At Insight Northwest Recovery, we offer integrated, personalized care that combines:
Group therapy & individual counseling
Behavioral therapy to help change harmful habits
Medication management when needed
Peer support programs for connection and encouragement
Aftercare strategies, including ongoing therapy and support groups like 12-Step programs or Alcoholics Anonymous
Recovery is Hard, But You Are Stronger
The road to recovery is not always easy or straight, but it is possible. There will be challenges, but there will also be victories, growth, and a chance to rebuild your life in a way that feels good and sustainable.
Be patient with yourself. Every step forward is a step toward healing.

Our Treatment Programs
Starting the recovery journey can feel overwhelming—where do you begin? What kind of treatment is right for you? With so many options out there, it’s normal to feel unsure. Having a clear understanding of what’s available can help you take the next best step toward healing.
At Insight Northwest Recovery in Medford, we offer three levels of outpatient treatment, both in-person and online, so you can get the help you need while still managing your daily life.
Is Outpatient Treatment Right for You?
Outpatient programs are a great fit for people who:
✔ Are transitioning from inpatient rehab and need continued support
✔ Have completed medical detox and are ready for structured therapy
✔ Have mild to moderate addiction and don’t require 24/7 care
What Our Programs Offer
Our outpatient programs provide the same therapeutic benefits as inpatient rehab, but with flexibility to keep up with work, school, and family responsibilities. We know that stepping away from life for months isn’t always possible, so we help you build recovery into your daily routine.
The Levels of Outpatient Treatment That We Provide at Insight Northwest Recovery are:
1 - Intensive Day Treatment (PHP)
The outpatient treatment process begins with Intensive Day Treatment, also known as PHP or Partial Hospitalization. This step provides our clients the opportunity to participate in a daily structured treatment program that combines individual therapy, group therapy and education, and activity-based therapies. In this program, you would attend 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks.
2 - Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
Following PHP, clients will often move to the next step of our program, Intensive Outpatient Programs, or IOP. This step is slightly less intensive than PHP but offers many of the same benefits. Like PHP, you would meet for group education and counseling sessions and utilize activity-based therapies as part of your treatment plans. The IOP program runs in 3 hour group counseling sessions, 3 times per week, for 3 months.
3 - Outpatient / Aftercare
Once a client has completed one or more of the intensive outpatient programs, the next step is Outpatient / Aftercare. This step is meant to set you up for long-term recovery. This program provides access to individual counseling, psychiatry, and peer support for up to 12 months.
As you complete our programs, our goal is to ease you back into daily life without the burden of substance use.
Understanding Addiction
At Insight Northwest Recovery, we primarily treat opioid addiction and alcohol dependence, two of the most common and challenging substance use disorders.
Opioids (whether illicit drugs like heroin or misused prescription painkillers) are highly addictive because of the way they hijack the brain’s reward system. These substances trigger the release of endorphins, the body’s natural "feel-good" chemicals, which temporarily reduce pain and create a sense of euphoria.
But over time, the brain adapts. The same dose no longer works, and the body craves more and more just to feel normal. This cycle keeps people trapped in addiction, constantly chasing the next high.
The Mayo Clinic has identified the following as risk factors for opioid addiction:
Poverty
Family or personal history of substance use disorders
Young age
Regular contact with high-risk people or environments
History of depression or anxiety disorder
Stressful circumstances
Heavy tobacco use
Additionally, women are more likely to experience opioid addiction as they have chronic pain more frequently than men, and are prescribed opioids in controlled doses by their primary care provider. Unfortunately, once an individual takes opioids it can become difficult to stop, and dependence can shift to a full-blown addiction.
Examples of the kinds of opioid drugs we treat for are below:
Alcohol Addiction
Like opioids, alcohol can make people feel happy and relaxed, but it also lowers impulse control and impairs decision-making. What starts as occasional or heavy drinking can quickly turn into addiction, making it harder to stop.
People drink for many reasons: stress, social pressure, or to escape pain, but a big factor is how alcohol affects the brain. Drinking releases dopamine and endorphins, chemicals that temporarily boost mood and reduce discomfort, much like opioids. Over time, the brain craves more alcohol to achieve the same effects, leading to dependence.
Alcohol Addiction is More Common Than You Think
Alcohol is the most widely used substance in the U.S.. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD), 17.6 million Americans struggle with alcohol abuse or dependence.
Since both alcohol and opioids affect the brain’s pleasure system, we use similar treatment methods for alcohol addiction and other substance use disorders. Many people develop mental health struggles alongside addiction, including anxiety and depression. That’s why treating both at the same time is essential for lasting recovery.
If alcohol use or substance use is impacting your life, we’re here to help. Reach out today to start your journey to recovery.
