MSW, LCSW, CADC III
As a social worker, I honor the inherent value and worth of each individual. As a clinician, I believe that honesty, dignity and respect are the pillars of an authentic therapeutic relationship.
I was born and raised in Indiana and am a recent transplant to the Pacific Northwest. After living my entire life in the Midwest surrounded by cornfields, I was drawn to Oregon by my love for nature, especially the mountains, and a desire to live a life of adventure.
Like so many, I grew up in a household affected by substance use and as an adolescent and young adult fought my own battles with addiction and mental health concerns. While I've worked hard to become the person I am today, it wasn't without a lot of really amazing people helping me along the way. After spending the first half of my life working in human resources, I decided I wanted to spend my time and energy putting good back into the world. So, I left my corporate career and worked part time at Starbucks while attending Indiana University to obtain my MSW. During my internship, I had the opportunity to work in a clinical role in an outpatient substance use program and I continued on in the same role as a substance use therapist in community mental health following graduation. During my time there, I had the honor of providing services to some really remarkable and resilient human beings and I am a better person because of it.
As a therapist, I am committed to fostering healing through the integration of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and a person-centered approach. My approach is rooted in the belief that each individual is the expert of their own experience, and I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is empathetic, non-judgmental, and affirming. My goal is to empower individuals to navigate life's challenges with confidence and to cultivate a sense of well-being that extends beyond the therapy room.
I have enjoyed a lot of different activities throughout my life and love to try new things! Some things I'm really passionate about these days are exploring this corner of the country, hiking, and spending time outdoors. I also enjoy cooking, reading, gardening and needlepoint. I'm really excited to start upping my hiking and camping game, and maybe trying out snow-shoeing and rock hounding.
Professional Background
While in school and following graduation, I worked for a hospital system community mental health facility providing outpatient substance use treatment for clients referred by the criminal justice system. I provided a variety of services including individual and group therapy and worked closely with county problem-solving courts and the Indiana Department of Child Services.
Most recently I have worked as a therapist in private practice providing individual treatment for anxiety, depression, substance use and trauma-related disorders, as well as couples therapy. I'm very excited about returning to working with addiction and co-occuring disorders.
